CFP: Seminário “Em torno de Raimundo Lulo” Transmission and Posterity of the Lullian work: between Portugal and Europe
Submissions Due: 25 April 2014
The figure and work of the medieval philosopher Raymond Lull (ca. 1232-1316), and in particular his later influence -in Iberia and Europe-, still suggest a variety of perspectives which deserve to be developed and discussed. The aim of the seminar is to deepen into the Lullian impact in order to promote a framework of dialogue between researchers that have studied some of the Lullian issues: the different aspects of his work, or the history of its readers and interpreters. The seminar could also be of interest to scholars who still do not know Raymond Lull.
Therefore, the Institute of Medieval Studies (Universidade Nova de Lisboa) and the Lullian Section – Société Internationale pour l’Étude de la Philosophie Médiévale (SIEPM) invite the scholars interested to send a paper proposal (250-300 words) and a brief CV (250-300 words) to seminarioramonllull2014@yahoo.es before 25 April 2014. The accepted proposals will be announced by the 30th of April, and the program will be officially released the 5th of May. The time for each paper will be 15-20 minutes.
The matters of the seminar, according to which communications will be selected, are:
- Influence in Portugal: Livro da Corte Imperial, Bosco Deleitoso, Gil Vicente, Lóios Order (Congregation of Secular Canons of St. John Evangelist), Duarte I.
- Reception in Europe: Nicholas of Cusa, Giordano Bruno, Juan de Herrera, Heimericus de Campo, Lefèvre d’Etaples, Francisco Jiménez de Cisneros, contexts of influence (religious orders, social and cultural groups), alchemist pseudo-Lullism.
- Life and work of Raymond Lull: philosophical aspects, theology, law, medicine, Lullian anthropology, combinatory, inter-religious.
Organizers: Francisco J. Díaz Marcilla (IEM-Universidade Nova de Lisboa), José Higuera Rubio (SL-SIEPM/UCM).
